Katoomba Real Estate
69Katoomba real estate comprises mostly affordable suburban housing similar to the neighboring villages that reside along the Great Western Highway within the Blue Mountains of New South Wales.
There are about 20 townships scattered in mostly a single line that traverse the Blue Mountains region, starting from Glenbrook at the foot of the mountain in the east to Hartley which is pretty much at the bottom of Mount Vitoria on the western side of the this magnificent range.
Some of the major townships are Springwood, Lawson, Leura, Mount Victoria, Wentworth Falls, Blackheath, and Katoomba. The Blue Mountains area has won many tourists awards and is now one of the favorite tourist destinations in the world. Tourists come here to explore nature at its best and to visit the various events and festivals held throughout the year.
Katoomba real estate is a healthy topic to discuss anytime as Katoomba is renowned as the chief or principal town of the Blue Mountains City and the town or village that is by far the most widely visited. The housing varies from small weatherboard cottages on a quarter acre blocks to lavish architech designed mansions with sprawling gardens and unmatched views.
Katoomba Real Estate
Katoomba - a great alternative to the Sydney Sprawl
Located a little over 100 kilometers westward from Sydney and at an elevation of 1080 meters this wonderful village has a quality of freshness about it, not just cool air freshness but a feature of alternate originality. It is somewhat a of a rural retreat from the rigors of city life so to speak, a place in the country where you can kick off your shoes, put your feet up, relax and unwind.
Katoomba received its name in the 1870’s after toying with some rather unusual and unsavory names prior but the name it now has is aboriginal for shining or shimmering falling waters which reflect the local waterfalls. I think the name is very much suited but that’s just my personal opinion.
The main western rail line runs through this town as it plies its way on to Lithgow and further west to Bathurst. Its use is evident by the many locals who regularly use the train to commute to work in the towns below the mountain, even as far back to the city itself.
Real Estate with Native Bush Views
Typical Australian Real Estate
Bounded by state forests, world heritage listed National Park and literally huge sprawling valleys and sandstone outcrops is it any wonder people love to purchase real estate here. The surrounds here have everything one desires to be close to nature with.
Most of the town’s real estate is made up of early weatherboard cottages which, like many other Australian rural villages reflect a unique and enticing warm character often reminiscent of its towns folk. When I was young I used to love visiting Katoomba with my parents and brother because it was a place where friendliness permeated the streets, shops, homes and the lives of the people who lived here.
There are some beautiful pieces of real estate that take pride of place in Katoomba and neighboring suburb Leura especially those with extensive bush views of the natural and spectacular mountains and valleys.
Because of the subtropical highland climate winters daytime temperatures are usually 10-12 degrees. Because of the cold at this elevation many homes have comforting wood fires, combustion burners or gas heating all designed to keep the home and family warm and snug while outside the mercury at times plummets to below zero.
Katoomba Characteristics
Wooden floors play a vital role in a lot of the older houses in the mountains because wood is warm and comfortable as well as providing great features. Carpets and carpet rugs are used extensively as a means of cushioning and insulating floors while masonry exteriors need little maintenance over the years they stand there.
Many of the older houses from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s are clad with weatherboard which was hugely popular at the time and still is with people who don’t mind the fact that you can change the color of timber cladding and dress your palace with beautiful garden landscapes to suit.
Katoomba Housing Prices
Pricing of real estate will vary according to the whether – the whether or not you are looking at the broad spectrum or just what you can afford, ha! little joke on my behalf. But seriously, pricing starts from the very affordable below $300,000 that any astute investor or owner occupier might desire through the mid range of 400 and 500 thousands and can quickly rise into the millions of dollars for those desirous of luxury, comfort and lifestyle second to none.
If you are interested in purchasing around the area then you can easily check the top two real estate websites on the net and browse what’s on offer in you price bracket. Alternatively you can search all types of Katoomba real estate in the hope that maybe one day your own dreams might be realized in this perfect mountain village.
In the meantime be assured that Katoomba is only one of the many townships dotted over the Blue Mountains with real estate for sale and there are scores of real estate agents waiting patiently to help you out when you show interest in what is available within their locale.
